Weep No More (Faithful Unto Death)

Weep No More (Faithful Unto Death)

SUMMARY

An original song written for Urbana 18 by members of Urbana Worship and InterVarsity staff, “Weep No More (Faithful Unto Death),” was birthed out of a season of personal struggle as well as Scripture study in the book of Revelation. The verse is inspired by Revelation 5:5:

Then one of the elders said to me, “Do not weep! See, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has triumphed.

This is a powerful anthem that invites worshippers to bring their sorrows to Jesus, the only true and righteous King, and then to be sent out in his victory.

Full Song Story

By Eric Lige, Urbana 18 Worship Director

" In July 2018, the Urbana 18 worship team gathered to study the book of Revelation in preparation for Urbana 18. From the overflow of that weekend, we were inspired to write the chorus of “Faithful Unto Death.” But we couldn’t quite finish it before our brief time together came to an end.

Over the next few months, we revisited the song, but the inspiration just wasn’t hitting us. We didn’t want to force an original song, so we weren’t sure what to do next. Then, just days before the conference, our Team Administrator, Julia, sent us a text with the words of Revelation 5:5: “Weep no more; behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah . . . has conquered.” And she sent a recording of what would become the verse of this song.

Many of us wept upon hearing it because the lyrics resonated so well after so many of us had suffered personal challenges and setbacks throughout the year. It was clear to us that we needed to walk through a few valley experiences before we could honestly sing “we give our lives as a testimony” during our mountaintop encounter that was Urbana 18. We put together the whole song over the next few days, finished it at Urbana, and played it for the very first time live on the Urbana stage.

Surrendering to Jesus means being sent into a world filled with spiritual opposition. We experienced unusually high levels of spiritual attack as we prepared for Urbana. But God reminds all of us, through the book of Revelation, that Jesus has conquered evil and death. He is victorious! He has proven himself to be the faithful witness to the point of laying down his life so that we, in turn, could experience life in abundance, no matter the obstacles we face."
